CPAP and Insurance Reimbursement

Wednesday, July 07, 2010

For many people, the most daunting part of learning that they have a sleep disorder is the cost to them and their families. As you know, medical care in this country can be prohibitively expensive. Even with insurance, some treatments are just too expensive for some families to bear. Talk About Sleep understands the stress involved with medical finances and we are here to help.

The good news is that Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy (CPAP) is at least partially covered by most insurance companies. It is a recognized medical necessity for most people who have sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea.  In order to be considered a viable candidate for CPAP therapy, you must see your doctor who will then write you a prescription for oxygen therapy. You can then come to our website and find the equipment and accessories that are right for you.

The insurance process:

If you work for a company that offers Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards, you might not have to pay anything up front. We accept most HSA and FSA cards and they work much like a normal debit account card. As an HSA and FSA account holder, you probably automatically deposit a portion of your paycheck into the account each month. As that money adds up, you are free to use it for medical necessities like prescriptions and CPAP equipment.

If you do not have an HSA or FSA account, you will have to pay for your equipment up front at shop.talkaboutsleep.com. You then send a copy of your prescription and a receipt of your purchase to your insurance company and they will reimburse you directly. We keep our prices low by not dealing with insurance companies ourselves.

Before to check with your own personal insurance carrier before making any purchases. Each company is different and they reimburse for different amounts. Some do not reimburse for CPAP equipment at all.
